How to use these lists:
Your child was tested at the end of Term 3 on a standardised spelling test of 67 words, ranging from easy to difficult. Based on their score, you child has been grouped with other children that scored similarly on the test.
Below are word lists for each group, taken from www.Studyladder.co.nz(Smartkiddies affiliated). Orange lists are easier, Blue lists are Year 4 targeted and Green to Black get progressively harder. Children who tested with a spelling age of 14 or more can find their spelling list HERE
At the start of the week, pretest your child on the assigned list, prior to them learning any of the words. This is to establish which ones they don't yet know and will need to learn. They can then spend the week learning these, and be tested again at the end of the week, to see how much they have improved.
However, should they correctly spell ALL the words in the assigned list, before learning them, then test them on the words of the list that is the next level of difficulty, for that week, only.
They will then buddy test each other at school on Monday afternoons.
How to use www.studyladder.co.nz:
Go to the website and log in using your smartkiddies username and password (keep these secret-you emailed them to yourself at the start of the year).
Select Literacy, select your level colour and go to number 1 for week 1's words (number 2 for week 2's words and so on).
Have fun learning your words with the activities. Remember to have the sound ON as the words are read out for you!
